The 2011 National Meeting of the Australasian Industrial Research Group (AIRG) will review a number of outstanding mission critical research and development programs and strategic technology initiatives from each of the perspectives of a project leader, the client for the program output, the responsible R&D or technology manager, as well as other critical parties. While in recent times, the AIRG has looked at Open Innovation and other aspects of global networking of R&D, it seems that it may be time to return to the ultimate objective for an industrial research manager, i.e., the delivery of research outcomes that are critical to the future of the corporation. Therefore, the meeting will examine many of the key ingredients of successful programs, and discuss issues that members have encountered along the way towards program success.
In short, consideration of the issues and success factors in the conduct of mission critical technology in industrial R&D in Australia and New Zealand will be the main focus of this year’s national meeting.
At the meeting’s conclusion, AIRG members will be asked to consider what they would like to see as a future role of their association in promoting best practices to assist them in sustaining and growing the role of Australasian industrial R&D, especially with respect to the conduct of mission-critical R&D and technology.
