AIRG will be hosting the Southern Region Meetinf 18 November Tour of the Australian Synchrotron at 800 Blackburn Road, Clayton, from 3pm.
A talk will be given on this occasion by Dr David Cookson, Head of Beamline Science and Operations. The subject of his talk will be an overview of the Australian Synchrotron, the work conducted there and mechanisms for interaction with industry.
As well as a stimulating talk, we intend to have a networking meeting with drinks and finger food to meet Synchrotron scientists.
Speaker Biography
After obtaining a PhD in physics from Monash University, David worked with Kodak doing industrial research. After a few years he was drawn back to academic research - working in Japan to further Australian interests at the Photon Factory in Tsukuba. David later moved to Chicago where he became Scientific Manager of the Australian Synchrotron Research Program at the Advanced Photon Source. Fifteen years later, Australia built its own world-class synchrotron and David was back on home soil. In addition to his position at the Australian Synchrotron, David is an adjunct Associate Professor with the University of Melbourne, School of Physics.
